Default Cache setting queries

Hi,

I have just upgraded my site from VB 3.5.3 + GARS 1.0g (well, I know that's really old ) to VB 3.6.10 + GARS 2.1.8m. However, I have a few questions regarding the cache settings.

1) I have enabled my GARS cache setting but I am getting the message "You have your settings cached but GARS can not write in the cache folder. Check your chmods in geek/gars/cache and all the subfolders and files. They should be 0777."

Is there anything that I have missed out?

I followed the instructions to change the chmods in geek/gars/cache and all the subfolders and files to 0777 but was not able to do so with the following folders and files.

geek/gars/cache/"A folder with no name" ---> I have no idea where this null folder came from?
geek/gars/cache/1/1.php
geek/gars/cache/1/2.php
geek/gars/cache/1/3.php
geek/gars/cache/1/4.php
geek/gars/cache/1/5.php
geek/gars/cache/1/6.php
geek/gars/cache/1/7.php

2) Secondly, I noticed that the following few files were added to geek/gars/cache after I enable the cache. Do I need to change the permission of these few files to 0777 too?

mod4.php
mod5.php
mod6.php

3) Lastly (well, this might not be related to the cache setting), I did a check in my GARS type and noticed that the header image is not showing. I check on the properties of the image and it shows that it is pointing to "www.mysite.com/forums/admincp/geek/gars/images/types/1/default.jpg" whereas my actual path for GARS is in "www.mysite.com/forums/geek/gars/..."

Where can I change this setting to the correct path?

Thanks in advance.

1: The following directories are to have 777 permissions:
  • /geek/gars/cache
  • /geek/gars/cache/0 <-- looks like you are missing this directory
  • /geek/gars/cache/1
2: No, they should be fine as created.

3: ACP -> GARS -> Settings -> 'Absolute path to images folder' and/or 'FULL URL to your default images folder'

Hi Morgan,

I have no idea why /geek/gars/cache/0 was not there? Maybe I will try to re-upload the files.

I just had a look at my settings and the default settings are as follows:-

ACP -> GARS -> Settings -> Header Images
Absolute path to images folder : /home/mysite/public_html/forums/geek/gars/images
FULL URL to your default images folder : ./geek/gars/images

ACP -> GARS -> Types -> Article Type -> Header image info
Path to image : types/1/default.jpg

The settings are exactly the same when I was on v1.0g. What could have gone wrong here?

Try using the full HTTP link for the 'FULL URL to your default images folder' setting.

I have checked and it appears that the /geek/gars/cache/0 is there. However, it seems like my host is treating it as a null folder and that there isn't any files in there (but I was able to see the index.htm in there when I am in my FTP application).

I might have to check with my hosting company on this.
