If you attach images to your article, are they counted towards the user's total upload allotment setting in VB?

Is there anyway to override this? I've been trying to create some tutorials and some of them use a complex table formed by slicing an image and that needs something like 100 images and I don't want to allow my members to be able to add 100 images to all their posts!
