Default Problem with PayPal Button

Sam,

I am working on selling stuff with your GAL popup boxes.

Here is an example: http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44656

You will need to login to the forum as follows:

Username: tour
Password: tour

I use this login to show potential vendors and sponsors around the site.

Anyway, you will see three of your GAL links. In each of the first two there is way too much padding around the PayPal button. In the third one there is no table, and it looks the best.

The same code that is used in the second GAL link is shown here in a test web page: http://www.nastyz28.com/MikeM79Stuff/dashtest.html

There is too much padding around the PayPal button there too, but not as severe as in your GAL box.

Also, the box does not seem to like to display the dollar sign $.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The padding issue will be related to the HTML you are putting in and the replacement you are using.

The $ sign MAY have to be escaped by putting a \ before it (i.e. \$ 5.86)

Can you post your html for the others?

Thanks for having a look Sam.

Here is the html for the "dashdash" GAL (first one):

<table width="300" border="1" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="1">
<tr>
<td><div align="center"><b>Great New Part</b><br/>
</div></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><div align="center"><img src="http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/images/classicind/dash.jpg"></img><br/>
</div></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><div align="center">Part Number: 12345<br />
Part Description: Dash</div></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td height="93" valign="top"><form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post">
<p align="center">&nbsp;</p>
<p align="center">
<input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_xclick">
<input type="hidden" name="business" value="NastyZ28Ebay@aol.com">
<input type="hidden" name="item_name" value="Camaro Dash">
<input type="hidden" name="item_number" value="12345">
<input type="hidden" name="amount" value="89.95">
<input type="hidden" name="no_note" value="1">
<input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="USD">
<input type="hidden" name="bn" value="PP-BuyNowBF">
<input type="image" src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but23.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="Make payments with PayPal - it's fast, free and secure!">
</p>
</form></td>
</tr>
</table>

Here is the html for the "dash2dash2" GAL (second one). It is exactly the code that PayPal provides for a button, nothing more:

<form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post">
<p align="center">&nbsp;</p>
<p align="center">
<input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_xclick">
<input type="hidden" name="business" value="NastyZ28Ebay@aol.com">
<input type="hidden" name="item_name" value="Camaro Dash">
<input type="hidden" name="item_number" value="12345">
<input type="hidden" name="amount" value="89.95">
<input type="hidden" name="no_note" value="1">
<input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="USD">
<input type="hidden" name="bn" value="PP-BuyNowBF">
<input type="image" src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but23.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="Make payments with PayPal - it's fast, free and secure!">
</p>
</form>

I suspect the <form> tags....but what do I know? (not much). Thanks again.

- Mike

You're putting formatting code in the first but none in the second. Is it the first or second that you prefer?

Sam,

I would prefer the first approach.

What I am trying to do is devise a standard template that can be used again and again.

In the third example the PayPal button is not functional...there are no <form> tags.

I tried another one (dash4dash4) and it also no good. That code is:

<table width="300" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tr>
<td><div align="center"><b>Great New Part</b><br/>
</div></td>
<td>&nbsp;</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><div align="center"><img src="http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/images/classicind/dash.jpg"></img><br/>
</div></td>
<td>List Price: 109.95<br/>Your Price 89.95</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><div align="center">
Part Number: 12345<br />
Part Description: Dash<br />

</div></td>
<td><form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post">
<div align="center">
<input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_xclick">
<input type="hidden" name="business" value="NastyZ28Ebay@aol.com">
<input type="hidden" name="item_name" value="Camaro Dashboard">
<input type="hidden" name="item_number" value="dash">
<input type="hidden" name="amount" value="89.95">
<input type="hidden" name="no_note" value="1">
<input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="USD">
<input type="hidden" name="bn" value="PP-BuyNowBF">
<input type="image" src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but23.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="Make payments with PayPal - it's fast, free and secure!">
</div>
</form></td>
</tr>
</table>

Thanks again.

Sam,

The problem is the excessive padding around the PayPal button. It makes the yellow box look enormous. This is a screen shot of a mouseover on "dash2dash2". This one has just the PayPal button, nothing more:

This screenshot shows what it looks like when mouseover is on "dash4dash4". This one is the most like what I really want it to look like: product image, a few words of description, part number, and a buy it now button. As you can see, the box is simply too big....the padding is out of control some how...too much blank space:

Compare those two examples to this one ( someone else's site...but GAL nonethless ). Notice...no extra padding, looks neat and professional:

does this help?

HTML Code:
<table border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="1">
 <tr>
     <td colspan="2" align="center" valign="top">
             <b>Great New Part</b>
        </td>
 </tr>
 <tr>
     <td align="center">
         <img src="http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/images/classicind/dash.jpg"></img>
     </td>
     <td valign="top">
         List Price: 109.95<br/>
            Your Price 89.95
        </td>
 </tr>
 <tr>
     <td align="center" valign="top">
         <div align="center">
      Part Number: 12345<br />
      Part Description: Dash
     </td>
     <td valign="middle" align="center">
         <form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post">
             <input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_xclick">
             <input type="hidden" name="business" value="NastyZ28Ebay@aol.com">
             <input type="hidden" name="item_name" value="Camaro Dashboard">
             <input type="hidden" name="item_number" value="dash">
             <input type="hidden" name="amount" value="89.95">
             <input type="hidden" name="no_note" value="1">
             <input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="USD">
             <input type="hidden" name="bn" value="PP-BuyNowBF">
             <input type="image" src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but23.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="Make payments with PayPal - it's fast, free and secure!">
      </form>
        </td>
 </tr>
</table>
Not sure... just reformatted some of the html. You may still need to tweak it.

Sam,

I cut and pasted your code into GAL link "dash5dash5". The result is pretty much the same (way too much padding space):

The only decent looking result I got is "dash3dash3", but that one is not functional....the button has no <form> tags, so it does nothing. Dunno if the lack <form> tags should make a difference, but it sure seems to for whatever reason. The "dash2dash2" GAL only has the PayPal button code in it...and it is way too padded....makes me think it is something about the button code. It would appear that a line break accompanies every <input> tag, even though this input should be hidden.

Unfortunately, I am sorta stuck at this point. There is a major vendor / sponsor that I would like to work with...but I can't show him all this padding...just doesn't look right.

Any other thoughts / theories would be appreciated.

Thanks.

- Mike
