A few presale questions
I am webmaster of a big board we are currently in the process of redoing our website design. We are still running version 3.0.x but with this upgrade we plan to shift to 3.6.x and include new functionality into the site. I have a few questions though, if anyone can please guide me.
1. Compatibility with VBAdvanced - Can latest articles from a particular category in GARS (I specify the category) be imported onto a module in Vbadvanced and with it have the thumbnail displayed right alongside the text of the article. For example http://www.pakpassion.net you look at the latest articles with pictures on the side, currently we are getting the pictures through IMG code but I dont want to do that, I just want to add a new article select a thumbnail and the article's portion should be displayed on homepage (vbadvanced) along with the thumbnail. 2. Author's name - We have an admin team of around 7 admins, that is all the staff there is. Now only admins have the permission to add articles but that doesnt mean that they are the ones who write, we have journalists who write articles for us, members but since they do not have permission to add articles they just mail us and we add the article. Now what I am looking for is an author field like one present in mambo where when adding the article we can specify who the real author is and his name should be displayed with the article not the admin who added the article. If this can be done will it also be possible to have author's name displayed on vbadvanced below the exerpt of article. Its just two questions for now as I really need the above mentioned functionalities. Regards |

Hey Scribbller,
1 - There is a free module here in the add on section that will allow you to pull items from GARS forums (along with the header image) into a vbacmps block. So yes 2 - There is a space to post the article as a specific username - so yes What I would suggest however is a slightly easier approach (feel free to ignore though!). Create a forum (or sub forum or hidden forum whatever) called 'submit article'. Set the forum up so that only admins can see threads. GAR the forum the same as your articles forum so the layout is the same and all fields are the same. Then the authors can submit, but only the admins can see. If it passes, then just move them to the open forum for everyone to read. This is usually a much quicker and easier method for admins and mods to deal with then someone emailing an article over. HTHs! |

Thanks for the prompt reply, top service
Thing is I tried the second approach with our current setup but most of the time members just miss that and end up mailing us, I tried that but didnt work out and as I said we have alot of journalists who write for us and they are very rarely members on the forum or for that matter have time to come over to the site, login and post an article. |

Ah, I see. In that case, you can either use the 'post as' function or simply use the byline (if they arent a member already).
