Allow user to write under another FIX existing user
Hi all
With GARS I can allow a usergroup or anybody to write under another existing username in a specific forum. Is it possible to make that username a fix one? Background is that I want to give users the possibility to post in a "classified" forum, and there especially for the partner search. The overall forum however has nothing to do with partnersearch. Such "ads" of course wouldn't want to be posted under the normal username used in the rest of the forum. So GARS comes in very handy, I could add a username "classified", "Cupid" or so, which a user can use in that section. However, I would like to disable the possibility for them to use any other username. So they can post only under that specific one. Is that possible? Otherwise I would find it a bit dangerous, that people use others names just for fun. Another question I find important: as the admin I should be able to see, who posted under another username, is that possible? Last edited by Steigeisen; 06-08-2009 at 11:31 AM.. |

I'm not sure if I made myself clearly enough, english is not my mothertongue. If you do not understand what I mean, please do not hesitate to ask.
Regarding my first post I'd like to add that I find it more important to be able to see WHO posted under another name than to disable the possibility to post under ANY other username. If the blocking of other names is possible, that would be perfect, but as in my classified-forum there will be only posts under one specific username, I will simply delete any post that was not posted using that specific name. uhm, I really hope you understand what I mean. A great help would already be, if there was a possibility to set a default user name... Last edited by Steigeisen; 06-08-2009 at 11:35 AM.. |

Hi
Thank you for your response. Yes, I know that I can do this already. My questions above were: 1st: is there a setting, where user can write only under ONE SPECIFIC name, not using any existing? 2nd: can I, being an admin, see anywhere, WHO posted under another name? |

Neither is possible without file edits. A place to start would be the gars_class_edit.php file. There look for post_as to find the locations of where you can force a particular user name. For who posted as someone else, one idea would be to add a who_posted field to the gars MySQL table where you could edit the PHP code to insert the user ID of the actual poster using $this->vb->userinfo['userid'] in the gars_class_edit.php file.

The other thing you requested will be too much for me, as I know hardly anything about php. All I can do is "look for" and "replace with" Maybe this would be something for a release in the future? I think it would come in very handy to be able to see who posted when enabling users to use other names. Thank you all, I will buy another license for my new forum. |

Tracking who really posted could be informative if you are allowing usergroups with lots of people to post as another user. Added to the might-do list.
