Lightbulb GPOP + GARS Attachment Module = Uber?

Hey Geek,

What's the feasibility of setting it up so that the Geek Popup puts images in the Attachments module for GARS? Or maybe have the option to set it to go to the post or the Attachments module based on forum settings? Maybe even add a caption for each image as you go? It would fill a definite niche and nicely expand the capabilities of the GARS system, by tying it into vbGallery. It would make it possible to force image uploads for certain forums to go though a controlled process so you can capture specific values for categorization etc.

I tested it, and if you have Upload Image permission turned off for that user group in that forum, the GPoP still works. So site admins would have the ability to allow unrestricted use of upload and picking from your vBGallery (or photopost/photoplog?) pics, OR they could lock it down so they have some control of the images going into articles etc. The site admin would also have control of WHERE the images are displayed which would be great for developing a clean professional looking article format. Might even be a fix for scribbller's text wrapping issues? I can see some really nice advantages to that. We might have to add a template edit to the GARS template sets to go along with removing the upload permission, to remove the picture button from the WYSIWYG, but I'd think that would be doable? Man... The power of GARS continually astounds me... To borrow a phrase: How freaking cool is that?!

Does that seem like a workable combination? We'd be willing to foot the bill (yes, we mean real money, not $50 and done, or a case of cheap beer ) for the development if someone knows a coder that could do a professional job on the mods to the popup? Then we could post the resulting module up on here for others to use...

Assuming that we could convince you to NOT have us attacked by cheap suits if we have someone alter your code of course. I read your copyright notice in the GPOP PHP ::shudder:: Don't you know that Lawyers are like Nuclear weapons? It's bad for everyone once they start getting used .

Anyway, assuming you're willing to waive the cheap suit threat, we'd like ask for recommendations from anyone reading this, as we'd rather find someone familiar with GARS rather than getting someone from vB.org that might have to spend more time figuring out the parts of the system before they can make the changes.

Thanks in advance for any/all feedback.

James & Susan

Its pretty dooable if I follow you, but alas - I wouldnt be able to tackle it. If you wanted to have the code altered for your own use, there is really nothing stopping you from doing it. The copyright notice is really for releasing my code as someone elses work. If you had success with it and thought it would benefit others, then credit would have to be given and permission still given, however Im not really that big of a stickler over my FOC work anyway

Thanks, and np. I really just wanted to do a quick reality check on the feasibility of changing GPOP to drop the pictures in as attachments rather than as inpost images, as I'm a bit fuzzy on what the distinction is.

I also wanted to see if anyone here had any suggestions for a good contractor to tackle the changes. We'd rather pay someone good a bit more and get a better product... My basic mantra is "Never buy cheap tools" They end up costing you more in the long run.
