Default Buying Downloadables (module suggestion)

Hello! I have a suggestion here. My site is for my band and we want to sell our cd in hard format as well as a downloadable format. For the hard copy, I have it set so there is a shipping price, and of course I get an email, and I send it out. BUT, for the downloadable copy of the cd, I would really like to have it automated.

I don't really want the person to have to wait around for me to get to them and give them a url or something. It would be sweet if we could have a module available that would bring you to a page with a list of any of your files you are permitted to download. (If you bought multiple mp3s, you would have them all available on one page) I personally don't want a time limit that they have access to it, but for others it may be useful.

Now, I could hack up this crazy page that shows conditional information depending on the usergroups. But this is not very fun to manage, which is why I am even porting over to GeekMart .

Anyone else have a thought for this? It could be used for a site such as this, where you go to one page and it shows all of your products you can download, and if nothing is available, you are redirected to the store to buy yourself some access. Or just a notice saying as much.

You want a download manager that runs off of usergroups (or at least can run a mod to do a DB lookup for approval).

What I do here is run the license (or membership) module which places the user in a secondary UG for a pecified period of time.
Geeker (the downloader here) then allows certain UG's to download certain products.

I supposed if you had 20 different UG's it would start to get to be a pain though.

Yeah, I can work a page that does it. I was just dreaming I guess. Since the page would be templates, it wouldn't really be that hard. I'll go test out the membership module.

You could think about a small module that emails them a link to a php page that looks up their order and sends down the item maybe?

The email to the user is a great idea. My problem is that I wouldn't know how to make the module. I can make the page that would show the links for their download based on conditionals.

Hello,

There are several free storefront that are designed around outomated downloads. If you were to grab "Cube Cart", it is one of them. There are modifications for that storefront that allow automated downloads upon purchase. If you extracted the modification itself and wrote it in templates, you could create your own page that did the same thing with a little modifying I would guess. I plan on doing this in the future as I make some of my info downloadable.

I am not much of a php person. I can follow along with instructions, but I am not much of a creator. Or even much of a modifier. lol

What I can do is work with templates. So I think I will do that.

Why not just look at exisitng vB download modules that allow you to specify which usergroups can download which files? That way, you use GeekMart to set the usergroup on purcahse and then they have access to the files.

Honestly - its the easiest and best answer (its the method I use here - only difference is that I wrote the downloader here).
