presales questions
Hello I am very interested in this mod I was wondering is it possible to have categories example would be "categoryname" instead of having everything listed in a A-Z format this would be very helpful especially when it comes to seo and searching for related articles for example....
Also can this modication be used to make a link directory, article directory, reviews section all 3 of them or do i have to pick one lol Is there a demo anywhere because I didnt see one thanks Last edited by hitboy; 02-20-2007 at 04:18 PM.. |

Hi there,
Im not sure I understand the question about categories - could you link an example? GARS comes configured with a default tutorial, article and review system. There is a free add on for the link directory and that is just the beginning of what you can do and no, you do not need a license for each type of system (i.e. 1 for reviews and 1 for articles) - gars is set up so 1 instance will run countless other 'types'. For the categories there are a couple ways I can think of to do that; either create each as a separate GARS enabled forum, or use a custom field and filter the article/tutorial/review/whatever on that custom field.
As for running 3 Separate systems, you can have as many different GARS tweaked forums as you like as long as they are within the same domain/vBulletin installation. At least that's my understanding of the licensing. I think we have a dozen or so on our site (Articles, Tutorials, Product listing, Instruction files for download, Store Directory, Brochure and Documents, Installer's Directory etc...). It DOES take some time to really wrap your mind around how it works, but once you get the hang of it, it's really *really* flexible! We moved our whole site into our vBulletin with GARS and vBa CMPS. Yea I was just hoping there would be a way to make real categories as a list instead of making a new forum for each category.
I dont like the a-z feature I was just curious if it was possible because this system seems very well made and I would like to use it |

Use the Custom Field filter? That way folks just drop it down and selct the one they want from the list and only entries with that value in the custom field will be displayed.

The A-Z filter is simply a filter setting. Most people have a sub forum for each category which is far more flexible as you can assign differnt types/custom fields/templates/modules/phrases/etc... to each one (or have it the same as its parent!)
