Default Help required!!!

Hey Guys,

I have just had a PM from a user asking for a detailed manual for GARS. Now, there is the readme availible online, however it still leaves a bit to be desired. I am swamped trying to get GAL 5.0 to beta, and I was wondering if anyone would be keen on doing some great documentation for my users.

If you are pretty ofay with GARS and think you could whip up some great documentation... drop me a PM and well negotiate a price.

Thanks!

Are you looking for an elaboration on the existing guide or a completely rewritten guide? GARS is more complex then most mods i've encountered and honestly the best way to learn how to use it is just to tinker. I still have much to learn myself (A few template quirks etc.) but I would be willing to write an overview on how to tie types, modules, ratings, templates and term sets together. What format are we talking? Html or text files? I would be willing to contribute for free.

I'm sure you have but in case not.. Have you considered a wiki? Might take awhile but you could end up with a fairly elaborate guide over time.

I guess my inclination was a pdf... however I like the wiki idea vat0r... I guess the question is... how would you prefer to learn GARS? If you had never used it before, what would be the best way to learn how to get it off the ground? If you are a veteran, what would be the easiest way to learn how to get the most out of it?

Like I said, I am happy to pay for a comprehensive solution.

^^for n00bs (actually for anyone), u can always go the FLASH route. Like you did with GAB , but a little more detailed. Personally I feel like its the easiest way to learn something via the web.

Peace

Hmmm... your most likely right. The captiva movies take up a crap load of bandwidth though. I think the GAB movie was 30 seconds and 3 meg. Thats not all that much, however I would suspect a good GARS movie db would be more like 30 minutes and 180 meg. Multiply that by all the users and I start to exceed bandwidth again.

Maybe a mix of the two... a wiki article on the various aspects, then an accompanied movie?

those movies are a butt pain to do to. I guess Im not getting around pawning this off am I

GARS is my beeatch. Problem is finding the time to really exploit it

My favorite aspect of GARS is that its almost more of a mini development tool for vB. Sure, there are articles, tutorials, reviews out of the box and things like the release and link directory for quick add on ability... however this only starts to scratch the surface.

I started working on an auction system for it too to replace my classifieds system I use on another site. In fact, it was the key reason I introduced custom fields into 2.0 so I display things like cost etc... on the threadbit. Sadly I havent had any more time to work on it
