Okay I have a bit of a funky dilenma here and I was hoping all ya'll might be able to help me figure it out.

Please see this page for an example of what I am about to discuss:

http://www.prenatalyogacenter.com/fo...read.php?t=253

I am building a resource list with GARS. Basically a new thread equals a resource that can be rated, reviewed etc. Standard link directory stuff. One of the options I am offering is that anyone can edit a resource (thread).

In order for this to be possible and to allow me to track the edits, I created a custom field module in the lower right corner that allows people to click on an "edit resource" link. Please note that the current button says "Add Resource" and will be changed. When someone clicks on this link they are taken to the "edit a resource" forum where they can make edits to any or all of the custom fields.

By allowing this link to go to another forum, it keeps a record and allows me to moderate inline. It also leave the original thread untouched in case of a problem.

Here's my problem. When someone clicks on that link and are sent to the edit resource forum the info in the thread and the GARS custom fields are not transfered.

Does anyone know if it is possible to transfer those fields in hat specific thread to another forum?

This solution would work.

Another solution I would be satisfied with would be to have default text in the "message" field so that people wouldn't have to fill out the message text. VB code requires people to place a minimum amount of characters in order to post a thread. Does anyone know how to add defulat text into that area, for a specific forum.

Does all this require some heavy hacking?

It shouldnt really be hacking heavy. Just make the button put a variable in the request line like : http://www.prenatalyogacenter.com/fo...;OLDTHREAD=XXX

Then in a hook, check if its there:

PHP Code:
if ($_REQUEST['OLDTHREAD'])
{
$oldid intval($_REQUEST['OLDTHREAD']);
//grab the info and do what you want with it

THis same goes for custom fields and such. Do a query for the info and fill the local variables accordingly.

Try over at .org as well - what you're asking is not GARS specific (though it never hurts to mention GARS ), its kind of along the lines of copying a thread, but into preview mode instead of posting it.

HTHs!
