Quick questions before purchasing
We're upgrading to VB 3.5.2 this weekend and we are forced to switch from VBarticles to another article system. The one we have now works excellent, but it will be months before it is released for 3.5.2 since the coder decided yesterday to start from scratch. Anyhow My questions:
1. I noticed your articles system uses showthread.php. Are we able to customize the look and feel of the tutorials since it uses showthread.php? To be more specific, we have cings articles installed here: http://www.muscle-mustangs.com/forums/articles.php we need the left and right column like shown, will this be possible? 2. We are going to use this URL rewright system: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showt...&highlight=seo will this work with the articles and will it show the thread titles like: Your-thread-title-here.html? 3. I'm trying to make our articles look seperate from our forums. Does this create a forum title on forum home and can this be removed? 4. Any screenshots from the admin panel side? Thanks to all who help |

Hi Rick,
1- Yes, you can customize the look more so than just standard templates. GARS will let you even specify which template to show instead of showthread, forumdisplay, etc... Which means you can tweak to your hearts content . COuple that with the module system and its about as customizable as you can get . As far as making it look exactly like cinqs - you could with a little tweaking - however with no tweaking - the functionality is there. 2- I dont think Deans mod rewrite will allow for GARS multi pages. I know VBSEO does as they built the functionality in. 3- Yes it does, however turning off the visibility of the forum sorts that out. 4- No, ill see what Ican put together when it goes gold Thanks |

GARS appends an additional variable to the URL for page navigation. Deans reqrite doesnt account for that.

That won't be a problem, I'll just have to get VBSEO a little later on after I get everything converted.
One last question, if I install the system for 3.0.0 and create all of my articles, is their an upgrade script so that I can upgrade when I install VB 3.5.2? If I modify the templates to look like my current articles, will that also be transfered in the upgrade script? I just want to make sure I won't have any problems transfering the style to look like what I currently have before I actually purchased. |

There is no direct upgrader as such, however I could most likely make one in 2 minutes (essentailly you just need to rename the table and a field name before the upgrade)

Thanks! I got your articles installed on 3.0.0 and I must say that I had my doubts, but this is a solid product! Much more so than its rivals! It took me only about 2 hours or so to get it to look exactly like my other articles system! Now I have this installed on 3.0.0. I'm going to be upgrading to VB 3.5.2 tonight or next week sometime so I'll be getting this from you very soon! After I purchased your new version for 3.5.2, what would the upgrade steps be? Would I install VB 3.5.2 first then install your articles as normal, then run some kind of an import script or? Sorry about this, I'm just a little confused, I've never imported anything before.
EDIT I just transfered the money into my paypal account. If you could get me some good upgrade instructions, I could send payment tonight! Also, when I upgrade, will that transfer all articles and the modifications I made to the article templates? Thank You, Last edited by Rick; 12-18-2005 at 05:38 PM.. |

Ill do an upgrader from 3.0.x in the next couple of days if thats cool. In all reality, it isnt really needed, you wont loose any of your articles, worse case scenario you will lose your header images.

The cool thing with GAS and GARS is that your content is really just a thread. If you remove GARS or GAS, your articles and replies will simply display as normal threads
