Default AJAX ratings for GARS?

Hi Morgan! Is is possible that we will see an AJAX ratings system in a future version of GARS rather than the pull down ratings select menu? GARS is such a fantastic extension to vBulletin but it seems that the rating user interface is a slightly dated and clunky with the pull down menus to assign a rating.

One a side note, has anyone ever seen/heard of a site using GARS with this type of functionality modified into GARS? If so, please let me know.

Do you mean the 'rate now' drop down menu as seen in the side column here? If so, it is using the GARS_ajax_qr.js file, i.e., it is already ajax'ed.

Close, but rather I am referring to the actual rating assignment itself. Currently, it requires the user to select the rating they wish to assign via a drop down box.

An AJAX'd star rating system would give GARS a more update to date look/feel and give added user friendliness.

A good example would be wp-postratings plugin for Wordpress by Lester Chan. It has a very nice look and feel to it.

The rating options are numbers in drop down selects, which can be different for each question. The appearance of stars would require a code edit and/or the addition of a plugin. Multiple questions, each with stars, could produce a very large overall drop down menu. It may or may not be something for a future version.

Apologies, I think I may have not explained my point too well. If you look at the below example, currently when you want to assign a rating to a review in GARS you have to use the drop down boxes as shown below:

GARS_newreview1.jpg

What I was proposing was merely to replace these drop down boxes with a simple AJAX based star rating system (it doesn't need to be stars of course, it could be the same numbering as now) . I think it would help to enhance the user experience when submitting new reviews. Please see the below rough example (apologies, I was using MS Paint ):

Not familiar with that modification, and untested, but you could add whatever JavaScript you want to use to the top of the GARS_ratings template, and then you'd need to edit the GARS_rating_bit template and the fetch_ratingbits_for_select function in the gars_class_core.php file, so that the $rating_options and $rating_bits variables, as well as the GARS_rating_bit template, mesh with the new JavaScript you want to use. There might be other necessary edits also.
