GARS suggestions

I have a few suggestions:
  1. Add an INTERVIEW category/type.
  2. Add a BBCODE enhancement to the IMG type, to allow floating the image to the left or right of a paragraph.
  3. Allow an article to be "associated" with main forum category. Article synopses for an associated category would show underneath the sub-forum display. For an example: http://www.tgreer.com/printforum/forumdisplay.php?f=3

I think your first two requests you can do them yourself. The bbcodes are part of the vb backend and they work in GARS just as they work anywhere else in your board. For the first it's just a matter of copying modules/types/term sets and adjust them to your needs.

In fact, I can do all three myself. That isn't the point of the post...

The only plausible one there is #3

I don't mess with bbcodes (thats vb) and the interview type is simple enough to add (I just did one for theadminzone.com in 2 seconds). There are far too many types to be able to do to have them all come with gars. It would just over bloat it.

The third point is kind of interesting, but cant that be done with existing modules?

I don't know... I only have GARS Lite, due to the shop being "closed", and didn't see any option of associating articles with categories.

With the pro, you can pretty easily :)

I have #2 working in my forums fine: http://forums.learnmed.net/showthread.php?t=245

(Sorry, the pictures wont show up unless you're logged in. But you can still see the text floating anyways)

Yes, I have a custom bbcode on my site as well. I simply thought it would be good to have such be a "part of" the GARS product.

The Geek 05-02-2006 05:39 PM

Only problem is that it can interfere with other BBcode implimentations. Also, it would then only work on a GAR enabled forum which would be unintuitive for many users :(
