The future is....

Dearest of vBgeeks,

As most of you are aware, I had to pull the plug on all of my script development while I turned my full attention to my family business.

During the last few months, I have spent many an hour debating how and if my scripts (babies) will survive. All options were explored from releasing on .org to finding a new team to take over. Since few customers wanted them released on .org, I went about finding a new home for our beloved scripts. I have had a lot of great offers from a lot of great teams, but it was still a challenge to find the 'right fit' for the what I fantasise is the cultured palette of the vBgeek customer.

Since these scripts were my 'babies', I wanted to make sure I got the best fit I could. I believe that I have found that perfect fit.

"Morgan" from PhotoPlog (you may also know him as "" - super suave moderator at vBulletin.org) and I have come to an agreement to transfer all rights to the vBgeek scripts into him care to ensure that the dream of a GARS on every dinner table and a GAZ in every icebox is fulfilled. She will take charge of www.thevbgeek.com in the next couple of weeks to begin transitioning the future. Please give him all the support you gave me, he will do a phenomenal job with these scripts just as he has done with PhotoPlog and the rest of the vBulletin community. In fact, I have to say that I am really excited about the direction he will take these scripts in if our conversations or him coding is anything to go by.

Thanks for the update Sam ,

You'll always be missed in here. I wish you the best for your future life.

Kaelon 11-30-2007 08:09 PM

This is great to hear. However, in the interim, are there any plans to make GARS available for re-purchase and download? I know a number of us have been eager/hoping to implement a solid article management system and nothing out there has yet come close to GARS.

I'm delighted to hear that GARS as a script will be supported by a capable and gifted coder. It is a shame that you will no longer be able to provide your wit and energy to the maintenance of this script, Sam, as you will be dearly missed. That said, I am very eager and excited to get to meet and work with .

Lizard King 11-30-2007 08:21 PM

I wish will come here and share him future plans with us also :)

henrikhansen 11-30-2007 08:23 PM

Welcome Morgan ( ) :)

I am very pleased with this announcement and I really hope you will find it thrilling and educational to be here and we will help you with the transition the best we can.

sev3n 11-30-2007 08:55 PM

Great thing to hear. Good luck Morgan. :)

Johnny Utah 11-30-2007 09:06 PM

Good deal! Thanks for the update.

vat0r 11-30-2007 09:07 PM

As always the Geek has come through. This is great news, let's hope more is on the way.

Tigratrus 12-01-2007 12:44 AM

The best news I've read in quite some time... Yay!
::breaks out a celebratory beverage::

Morgan is hands down the best dev we've worked with... Superb support and really excellent code. If we can't have Sam back, we simply could *not* be happier that Morgan will be taking over our other favorite dev site.

Man this is such good news! 'Plog and the vbGeek packages are the heart and soul of the customization we've done with our site... To have them all under one roof (so to speak) is just plain ideal.

::capers madly::

Thanks Sam! I think you made the best possible choice, and (as I'm sure you can tell) we're utterly psyched that Morgan has the time and inclination to take on the various projects here. We continue to wish you all the best, and our thanks for taking your time to get the best home for vbgeek that you could...

James and Susan

smo 12-01-2007 12:54 AM

Im glad to hear that the dev will continue but Im sad that you wont be a part of it.

Hopefully, is as witty as you are. :)

Lionel 12-01-2007 02:14 AM

I think is a good choice.

efil 12-01-2007 04:39 AM

This is great news.

I'm sure Sam will be missed, but family is family and we can't argue with that. We can only wish for good luck and a lot of "thankyou's" for his work so far.

I think is a great choice. I am also a customer of Photoplog and I have had very good support so far. :)

Ohiosweetheart 12-01-2007 01:07 PM

This is indeed good news, altho you will be sorely missed, Sam!

Thanks everyone,

The Geek is a stand-up guy. Not only does he care about his customers, he wrote some super cool modifications and re-won the key contract for his family business. I'm sure he will continue to do his family business proud, and I wish him all the best.

As to this site and the scripts, things should be finalized in the next couple of weeks. Once everything is signed, sealed, and delivered, I'll handle all of the pending license changes, zip through the bugs posted in the project tracker, and reinstate sales.

Until then, cheers!

Tigratrus 12-01-2007 08:16 PM

Yippie! Welcome to geekdom Morgan! ;)

It's sooooo nice to have the uncertainty ended, and in such a positive way!

James and Susan

Hornstar6969 12-01-2007 09:13 PM

yeah this is by far the best solution! Cant wait to see what comes of the scripts over the next few months. I will be eagerly waiting the first update, as I have had to uninstall all my products as I have too many bugs currently with them.

very excited ^^

Infantrymen 12-02-2007 03:49 AM

Glad to see is in charge. You made the right choice.

Cheers,
Roms (yes the same one from vBorg)

That is good news for Sam and his family. :)

Congratulations on the deal, Morgan. Along with everyone else who has replied here, I share their excitement and looking forward to the future. :) I guess this means I can't hire you for custom projects? I hope that's not the case... :p

Hoffi 12-02-2007 01:24 PM

Helmut71 12-02-2007 02:18 PM

I'm thrilled to hear this, Morgan! I appreciate the up-front high-level overview of the transition plan as well as your major objectives shortly after transition has been completed. Our community relies upon an older, heavily hacked version of Geek Articles, and I would love to purchase a new license soon to upgrade it to the current version. I am elated to know that this product will continue healthy development and support.

NoDRaC 12-02-2007 08:12 PM

I have to agree. Any problems or questions ive had in relation to photoplog always receive a prompt response. The support is superb.

Well done morgan :D Looking forward to being able to purchase the links mod :D

SemperFideles 12-03-2007 07:06 AM

I'm sorry to hear about the tragedy that forced you to pull out from working this script. I am very gratified that you did not simply leave your customers "out in the dark" and took care to pass the script along to someone who could continue to develop this script.

GARS has been a huge benefit to my site and I hope to use it long into the future.

jluerken 12-03-2007 08:01 AM

Thanks for the info Sam. Hope to see you back in action in future. Until then lets see what Morgan can do for us :D

convergent 12-03-2007 07:03 PM

This is good news. I'm not sure if its too late or not for me, I guess it depends on how quickly the transition occurs. I've had some bugs that have forced me to look for a new (real) CMS solution and I've spent a lot of time over the last few weeks on that and not sure if this will stop those plans. I have some existing problems with GARS on my site. I'll keep an eye out here for how quickly things get back on track and may come back onto GARS as a main path for my site. Either way, welcome to the game Morgan... you'll have your hands full getting your arms around this, but the sky is the limit once you get there. :)

kidmercury 12-04-2007 12:59 AM

geek, your professionalism is second to none. thank you very much for that. if there was a vb hall of fame, you would definitely be in it. :)

so glad that this site and its fantastic add-ons will live on. looking forward to life under morgan! :D

Billspaintball 12-04-2007 09:27 AM

I read this announcement with a mixture of sadness and relief.

Sad that the geek has had to give this away,
Relief that these mods have been taken over by one as talented as .

So thanks for some excellent mods Geek, and I wish you and your family all the best foe the future.

BobdeBilder 12-04-2007 10:30 AM

excellent Morgan, so will you also be flying us to Bahamas like TheGeek did last year for Xmas?

Sychev_S 12-04-2007 05:30 PM

Good News! Feel kind of stupid for not realizing that was a female :) Sorry, Morgan :)

Morgan 12-04-2007 06:39 PM

Thanks everyone for the welcome.
