View Full Version : GAL 4.61 Release Discussion

I have just uploaded GAL 4.61 to the download section for license holders.
This release fixes a couple issues that seemed to popup as a result of the last release.
Primarily:
Ordinal (order) replacing. Specifying what order the words get replaced in should now work consistently.
Double linking. The big problem was trying to get the right RegEx which 'turned off' GAL from linking words that were already GALed. Think I have this sussed now.
Some members had problems with certain styles after the last upgrade as their style was missing the $spacer_open variable. I have introduced a new way of putting the required code in while still getting the benefit that KW802 suggested with the $spacer_open replacement (no template edits!). Anyhooo. Hope this helps.
Another user recently reported an issue with Right To left languages and an Arabic language set. I'm still looking into the issue though this may incidentally address that (I can wish!). Other than that, it should be business as usual!
To upgrade from 4.6:
Download the latest package
Upload the contents of the upload/forums folder to their respective locations (overwriting previous files).
Re-import the product-gal.xml file into your product manager (overwriting previous install).
Go to admincp->gal->maintenance->debug and rebuild.
Bob should then proceed to be your uncle.

Oh, I dont know if its worth mentioning, however for those that did the $spacer_open workaround (essentially manually putting the required GAL HTML in your template), you should revert those changes.

Geek you've forgotten to update the version number.
Product Manager shows 4.6 instead of 4.6.1 :D

I deleted 4.6 entirely and installed 4.61
I still link to itself even though I have nothing in the link field when clicking on a popup.
I don't want to link anywhere.

To ensure it is ONLY a popup (and not a link), do this:
Make sure your replacements are up to date (they should each have $target in them)
make sure they are in a category with no tracking of impressions or clicks
Make sure that the URL is empty.
failing that can you provide a URL?

And phrases in admincp Stats and Mantainence pages remain still hardcoded.

HTH'sPopup No Title<a href='$gal_link' target='_blank' class='gal' onmouseover='GAL_popup(this,"$gal_offset", $gal_width, "$gal_box_style", "$gal_description", "$gal_description_style");' onmouseout='GAL_hidepopup();'>$gal_text</a>
Glossary is set to popup no title.
Impressions and clicks set to no.
Even though impressions are set to no, the count increments.
It is set to the proper category.
CAI is the highlighted word.

1996 - target='_blank' needs to be $target
I wasn't sure how to do that so I followed you instructions from a previous post.
I created a new replacement<span class='gal' onmouseover='GAL_popup(this,"$gal_offset", $gal_width, "$gal_box_style", "$gal_description", "$gal_description_style");' onmouseout='GAL_hidepopup();'>$gal_text</span> And it works.:)
Would there be any problem using this?
Next I'd like to get rid of the little graphic before the linked word.

not if it works ;)
However I cant really remember WHY I didnt go that route (there was a specific reason!).
Anyhoo - If you do need to revert back - just change your repalcments to those found in the readme.

I just created a new replacement. But how do I remove that little graphic before the highlighted word?

You need to replace your replacements as per your readme. There are also a couple other bits in the readme you need to follow.
Make sure you debug->rebuild after.

Problems seem to be created by members using smilies in their posts .. has something been changed in the code that would cause this problem .. might revert back to 4.6 .. all was working well.

shouldnt be an issue at all. There were a few points that you had to go through in the readme (like replacing the replacments variables and rebuilding). Did you do that?
If not, drop me a PM with an admin account.
Thanks

what is the difference between rc1 and rc2??
The Geek

You mean for GARS? RC2 is new and improved - fixes some bugs, etc.. :)

Are you talking about GARS or GAL? This is for GAL discussion which is currently at release 4.65. GARS is currently at RC2.
