In Auto-Link Options, if I enter a URL longer than 255 characters, and then I save it, upon re-opening it I see that only the first 255 characters of the URL have been saved.

If I use a URL longer than 255 characters, such as the following one:

http://www.example.com/11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111

... then clicking on a hyperlink generated by GAL with result in a URL consisting of only the first 255 characters, such as the following example:

http://www.example.com/11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 11111111111111111111111111111111

In an attempt to increased the 255 character limit I went to AdminCP => Plugins & Products => Manage Products => GAL Auto-Linker => Edit => and I replaced all instances of (255) with (999). That made no noticeable difference.

Then I found an instance of "255" in gal_gdic_editor template, so I changed that also to "999", but no success.

Is there a way to increase this URL length limit?

Thanks.

I've searched I think all the php files for "255", but found none. I'm running out of ideas. Is there any way I can modify my installation to remove the 255 character limit for URLs?

... some affiliate links are longer than 255 characters, and in some cases the affiliate ID, which is close to the end of the URL, gets removed. A person who clicks such link does get to the intended product page, but the affiliate may not get credited if a sale has been made.

Any assistance with this would be hugely appreciated!

Using phpMyAdmin go look at the gal database table and there you can change the url field from varchar(255) to whatever you prefer.
