View Full Version : Cant upload picture headings

12-12-2008, 10:09 AM
Admins can upload picture headings (ph) to own articles
Admins can not upload ph to other members articles.
normal registered users can not upload pictures to own articles.

admin+registered users set to upload pictures in gars settings
all subfoldes in image and cache chmod 777
safemode tried both on and off
cache tried on and off

Path must be correct since admins can upload. Could it be some server settings?

On my test forum, if I uninstall and reinstall, it works imediately. Only have to set type for article forum. My test forum is an exact replica of the real forum, both database and ftp files.

I have copied the images folder from the test forum to the real forum. With the admin account I have access to those pictures and can choose them. I just cant upload new pictures.

I did the following experiment:

First on the test server I created an article with user test9 and uploaded a picture.
Then I uploaded gars/images from test server to real server.
Then I could see the uploaded picture with user test9 - and when I chmodded the folder images/2/9/0/8/types from 755 to 777 I could actully upload pictures with user test9 on the real server.

Seems everything works when folders already created and chmodded on real server. But it seems the gars software somehow is prevented from creating new folders on the real server and thats why it dosent work...

Any ideas?

If there is no solution to the create folder problem, maybe we could configure gars as only use a single folder for uploading/storing pictures so I could create and chmod that once and for all beforehand.

Does the live server have the same security settings as the test server, and who owns the image directories on each server: nobody, apache, httpd? Also what default permissions are used by the server when creating directories? You might man umask and check these permissions.

This information, is that something I can get though a FTP client ?
Wont there be some sort of error message somewhere if upload is not allowed?

Nope, FTP is insufficient as a way to get that information. If GARS works on one server, but not on another server, and all the GARS settings/options are the same (such as the yes/no and checked options) or correct for that particular server (such as the server path in the settings) then it would seem to be a server specific issue. If you cannot determine what is different, then please seek assistance from your sysadmin or host. Server setup/configuration is not my field, and not part of support for the scripts, though if you look at your server error logs, you might find a clue/error message there that might help.

The gallery works fine. A solution to the problem would be a small modification so users upload to the gallery instead of U/S/E/R/I/D. Would that be possible? I really like this software and really wants it to work for the users.

So safemode is off and members with userid from 1 to 9 can upload, but users with a userid of 10 or greater cannot upload?
