GARS 4.5 Released

First off, I think I'm going to cry. I just freaking created a mega long update thread and I seem to have lost it while jumping about the plethora of windows I keep open at one time. Sheesh. Well, here is a quick re-cap of that post ;)

I have been coding like a mad man to get to RC status and the good news is that it is literally spitting distance away. Furthermore, all I have scheduled to do in RC stage is documentation and phrasing. Therefore the current beta is like most RC's and I wouldn't think this will spend longer than 1 week in RC. In fact, I bet this baby is gold in the next 2 weeks with very little change.
I would have it to RC stage this weekend, however I'm off to exotic Wales for a weekend break with the family. So in the meantime I thought I would release where I was up to and let you know what was left to do.

4.5 Items of interest:

Updated userinfo module
Updated Tools module
Collapsible module panes
Preview Postbit bug fixed
Truncated first character bug fixed
New feature to display a users ratings in their comments
improved XHTML templates (Thanks James)
Various other odds and ends
Stuff to do before RC

Finish plugging in ability for users to rate when commenting (I'm almost there. Most likely another couple hours is all that is needed there)
Finish plugging in GAL integration (about another 2 hours)
Stuff to do for gold

Please note that I have left version 4d up as well... make sure you pick the right file!

To upgrade:

Download latest package
Upload contents of upload/forums to their corresponding location on your server (overwriting existing files)
In your product manager admincp page, click import product. Upload the product-gars.xml file (overwriting existing install)
Make sure once this is done that you go to admincp->gars->templates->Default Set and add GARS_preview_pb to the First Post Preview setting.

You didn't make this change:


mods/featured.php produces invalid XHTML:

Line 64: alt is a required attribute for <img>
Line 64: </a></strong> should be </strong></a>
I've fixed it but it's not updating. Is this information cached? If so how do I force an update?

I upgraded the product with overright and the gras menu in the admincp has been replaced with a box, i presume its missing admincp phrases?
Please help.

also noticed collapse boxes for the user review, content menu and featured menu dont work as well as latest and top articles collapse buttons is anyone else having this?

i also get this db error while trying to add an attachment when editing a post that i had set up previously to upgrading so i dont know if there was something different previos to 4.5 that is blocking this just thought id report it

one more thing when you add a container to the authors review, the athors review text doesnt display it jsut has the conainer with no title

Can't wait till you've finished that, then I can unveil this beuty to my members. =)

However, it seems you have forgotten the $typeinfo['show_byline'] conditional in the GARS_options template.

Also have you considered a feature that prevents user's making more than 1 comment per thread (review/tutorial/article) because that would be awsome.

hmm something else i just realized, its not keeping track of how many users have rated a review, it just says 0 users have rated it even when 2 or 3 have. Any ideas anyone?

I believe the Could not find phrase 'GARS_saved_template' is just a typo that is in the gars_admin.php file. Look for $gars->redirect('displaytemplates', "GARS_saved_template"); and just change it to $gars->redirect('displaytemplates', "GARS_saved_temp"); and that will fix the problem of the Could not find phrase 'GARS_saved_template'

ok sorry one more idea, it would be nice when the author is rating something for there to be an option to not yet rate it and it would say author rating not yet given, I cant imagine that this would be that hard to do, also in position 2 when i turn the author rating into a collapeable box the title disapears.

Hm ... this is still too buggy to even have some testings done on it. :(

For Example, when editing the Default Module Set, I will always get errors when trying to load any article of a type that usees this set. (There is some problem with the LIMIT SQL command, wicht ist only "LIMIT 0," without anything behind the comma.

(See here: http://www.tabletop-forum.de/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=132 -- just try to open an article)

Also, it is not possible to create a forumdisplay module seet, and you can't delete module sets.

I cant verify as it requires a login. Make sure there is a valid number in the How many threads to show in forumdisplay setting in each type (I am assuming there isnt, hence the error however I cant verify on my end).

Your other option is to use the beta 4.

Why cant you create a new module set? And yes, deletion isnt availible in this beta

you can always go in and manually delete in phpmyadmin if it is really a problem for you :) that is what I have done when playing with it on my site

If this is the GAL integration box - it doesnt work yet (and you would need to have GAL installed anyway)

Whaou this new version is great ; very easy to configure !
I've just seen a little problem, when an article hasn't been written with GARS, you can't edit Byline, Synopsis and Autolink options.

I'll begin french translation as promised soon now :)

Autolink options you cant - however the others you should totally be able to.

I've tried, but it doesn't work.
When i edit a article i've just written with GARS i can access to theses options, but why i edit an old article (in fact it was at the beginning a simple vB thread) i can't.

Do you thinks phrases are going to change a lot with RC ? It's going to be hard to wait ;)

Im hoping I can get RC by this weekend. RC will be primarily documentation and phrasing coupled with the odd bug fix. Personally I doubt we will see anything more than RC1 MAYBE RC2 at the most.
