View Full Version : GARS 2.1.4 Release Discussion

I have uploaded GARS 2.1.4 to the download area for active license holders. Please read this thread before downloading as it contains important information regarding upgrading and installing.

2.1.4 address all confirmed current issues and adds a new feature: Sub forums in columns.

I consider this an RC of the sub forums in columns function as I have only tested it on about 6 forums. In order to put your sub forums in columns, edit the type that controls the forum and scroll down to 'How many columns for sub forums?' option. 1 or above will put any sub forums appearing into that many columns. Pretty straight forward stuff. Once I upgrade my other site, Ill post a link for an example.

Upgrading:

Please note that due to vB add on limitations, upgrading will erase any custom phrases and templates assigned to GARS via the GARS add on importer. Therefore it is important that before you upgrade, export any custom translations. Once upgrade is complete, re import any add ons (i.e. the release add on or the link directory add on) choosing the 'phrases and templates only' option.

It is also important to note that I have updated the release add on to conform with the new 'sub forums in columns' functionality.

Standard installation and upgrade instructions can be found on the download page.

Please post all bugs in the bug tracker and/or the forums. Leave this thread for the discussion of GARS 2.1.4

Thanks!

Upgraded with no problems but my columns are not being displayed properly even with a number set for the column variable in my type.

Thanks!

i upgraded fine, no issues here, other than i don't see any option for forums in sub categories. And did re upload and overwrite the product file.

also, still cant get ratings to work, have tried different browsers to no avail.

Hi Geek,

where can I see a demo of the subforum column thing? I just installed the Xenon hack, arrange forums in columns and wonder if that might work together. Damn have to renew my license ;)

As far as i can tell, yes.

Not had Gars very long, but to see it in action, heres a link.

I use Gars in the tutorial and Links forums.

Not much there yet, but its a start.

Will this work with 3.6.0?

Tigratrus
01-09-2007, 02:27 PM
I know it works with 3.6.4, and I don't think there are any *functional* differences between 3.6.4 and 3.6.0, just security fixes.

The Geek

Trana - can you provide a screenshot or URL? All add ons should work fine and in theory it should work with 3.6.0, however it is only tested on the latest versions.

The option for subforums is in the type editor. If its not there you most likely have missed uploading the latest file.

HTHs!

On checking, i did indeed omit to upload 2 files to forum root, subforums, now displaying.

Is there anyone still having problems with the Ajax rating thru FireFox? Not sure if I'm missed something or if the bug is still there.

If "Re-Sync Ratings" from the "GARS ยป Tools" means the same thing as rebuilding them, then yes! Is there anything else I should try?

Yeah, here in your site, it worked fine since the last release.. I think I pointed that out to you, maybe I'm missing a configuration or something?

Thanks!

I am also have trouble with quickrate in Firefox

I turned on the Javascript console and I see the following error when I click on the "Rate now" button:

Error: tep has no properties
Source File: http://www.<mydomain>.com/geek/gars/clientscript/GARS_ajax_qr.js?v=2rc4b
Line: 73

The code fragment is:
if (newresult != '')
{
var tep = fetch_object('gars_this_table' + old_gars_id);

tep.innerHTML = newresult;
}

(line 73 is the tep.innerHTML line)

... it seems that the fetch_object call is failing.

Would this have something to do with the problem perhaps ??

I'd try using a different firefox install - do you have a friend that can try it for you?

I tried all I could on your site with the login you provided and it worked every time...

In your acp language and phrase settings?
Choose export/download language and select gars.

I believe this upgrade caused my forumdisplay member ratings icons function to break. The member ratings are displayed properly within the actual thread/posts, but on the forumdisplay it always shows 5 stars no matter what the rating is.

I ran all of the GARS tools and they all still as 5's.

Any ideas what I should check?

Thanks!

Gars is not displaying # of views. Does not display how many times article has been read or viewed. Is this normal?
Also I do not see the filter module anywhere. is this normal?

I just installed and it seems to be working well. However I still have the FF ajax rating problem. Is this fixed? It works on your forum. I rebuilt my ratings, re-saved my ratings, tried to create a new thread. Nothing works. I saves the info in the selection box but I get the "Error getting info" when I rate.

The Geek
02-01-2007, 04:01 PM
Make sure you have ALL the latest files. FOr instance, the new marked.php should be creting rating points if they no longer exist. Most users that had the FF problem had some old files hanging about.

HTHs

waltercat
02-04-2007, 01:08 AM
That almost works. It allows me to rate but only if I resync my ratings each time. I checked all my files and they are up to date. Do I need to delete any of my geek/gars/cache files?

The Geek
02-04-2007, 11:07 PM
No, that shouldnt matter. On that note, it isnt the marked.php but the reviewrate.php file (sorry). Double check that one as it is the file that makes the entry points.

waltercat
02-08-2007, 05:38 PM
I have double and triple checked each file. It doesn't take it until I re-sync the ratings. It works on your site, just not on mine.

I am on 2.0.1 and the rating module does not work for me for FF unless I resync my ratings. It works on your site, but not mine. I've tried everything you've recommended.

I just tried it in IE and it doesn't work either. Now I'm really confused... It is being calculated in the forum display but the thread it self does not show anything.

Are your templates reverted ?

The Geek

If youre talking about GARS 2.0.1 then you need to update it - there were some issues with it awhile ago. Current version is 2.1.4

I reverted my templates, but again it still doesn't work. It saves the info on the ajax drop down menu, but it doesn't for the overall module.

Do I need to revert all my templates, then import the product.xml?

I'm really baffled by this, cuz it works for other people.

Hi...does this version work on vB3.5.4 (I know its old ;))

It should be fine on 3.5.4

Walter - what exactly do you mean that it saves but not overall?

Lagaf

I have the same problem with Firefox 2.0.0.1.

The member rating layer pops up, you may take your choice but after clicking on "Submit" the layer is closed - without having any effect for the overall rating. With IE7 there is no problem at all. Unfortunatelly we have 60% firefox users. :rolleyes:

If I go to one of the listings and click rate now, my ratings that I posted yesterday will show in the dropdown menu. However the overall rating module, that everyone sees does not show (see attached).

Hmmm. Ill download 2.0.1 and run some tests to see if I can resolve this.

I do not think it is FF that is the problem. I think it's something on my upgrade. I can rate your Listings in your link directory. I just can't get it to work in my link directory.

I am isolating it and I have attributed it to my links directory. It works in non link directory forums. I'll see if I can pin point exactly what.

It definitely is the link directory. Why, I'm not sure, the ratings in your link directory work.
