I was having the same issue with thumbnails not showing. I took out the / and just entered the site by www.site.com or sub.site.com and behold my thumbnail showed up. Anyone having issues might try it and see if it works.

Okay don't know if this is a bug or a setting is off.

It just showed a image not available you get when the image is missing. I then went and edited to www.fffss.org. I got the preview image not available. The pretty blue one :) A few other tries and still the pretty blue image. So I inserted a sentence (no periods) then went back and put in just fffss.org and behold I have an image of the website.

I would guess that it is more to do with the thumbnail service you are using. Some wont like the trailing space, some do :)

It will be a module that comes with the add on. When you import the addon into the GARS import section of the admincp, it will be created then (assuming you alos uploaded the files). You will also have a new module set that the Snap module will be in :)

Hello, Im adding the links page to my site, I downloaded all software and installed it on my site then I see the Gars in my admin cp, uploaded xml software. Now I see it, the links section but now what. Im looking around to see how to make work with my site do I have to make a links tab and where would I direct it to?

My site has quite a few mods to it, so some hacks are a little harder to install.

I've had a quick search but cant find the answer to this question.

Ive been running this Link Directory for a few days now and so far Im quite happy with it.

One thing I have been unable to work out is why only some of the listed sites have a Preview Image, and others just have the default no preview found image:confused:

Im taking a guess that maybe the thumbnail service has not indexed that URL for some reason?

If so is there anyway to force or request them to be Indexed?

If not is there anyway we can upload our own image for these particular sites?

Ron - You just need to assign the new Link Directory type to a forum via your GARS settings. Then you can start to make new entries in that forum.

I kind of got it working, with sql errors too. Can I make this work with a links menu tab rather than another forum, I want to keep mine down. I couldnt figure out how to change the picture either. I was trying to make it similar to this links page http://www.outlawatvclub.com/forums/index.php?act=links is that possible.

Can you guys assist with installs and additial coding?
Im lost on this, I cannot get it to work properly.

We had that problem, and the way we solved it was to enter the actual path the the temp folder on line 37 of the /geek/gars/mods/persist/snap.php

so the original line looks like
$loc = @tempnam(ini_get('upload_tmp_dir'), 'geek');

I have modified it to
$loc = @tempnam('/home/fred/domains/fred.com/george/', 'geek');

where the /george/ bit is a read/write (777) folder OUTSIDE the public_html folder, accessible only by gars.

If I gathered your other post correctly, you changed the server path to the url. The server path is the full server path (i.e. /var/www/html/forum/geek/gars/images) and the other setting is the URL to that folder (i.e http:www.me.com/geek/gars/images)

There's no upload picture option on the page when I go to make a new post of a link? I don't see it in your 2.1.8 version on my site, but I see it on your version here at your site.

Hehehe... I don't know how to use it, how does one get the snapshot of a site? Do they use their computers screenshot system? Macs make (.tiff) pics. I can't expect my Members to know how to use it if I can't either...hahahaha.. yeah, we're goofy musicians!!!:D

I havent had time to look yet, but Ill be getting to it really soon.
The snap module takes a URL as a custom field. When the thread is saved, it goes out and takes a 'snapshot' of the URL as the pic.

Same here, fresh upgrade to 2.1.8, updated the links files and corrected the path to full url.

Although it is now creating the thumbnail, in geek/gars/images (which is odd because it used to create them in geek/gars/images/1 ), but at least I can see the snap module is working

Now, with the path to images still set to relative (ie ./geek/gars/images ) when I create a post the default image shows up. But I get the error (above) when I submit the post.

If I change the image path to absolute (ful url) it will let me submit the post, but the thumbnail shows a broken image (red cross), if I look at the properties of that it's doubled up the path.

I've just noticed too, that if you change the path to the gars images from relative to absolute (full URL), it stops images being uploaded for the other GARS types (articles, and tutorials)

Hi, what do you mean went through every url/path? I am still having problems and have no idea how to fix it. Its frustrating that its generating the images but just can't seem to upload them. Any help would be appreciated

Yes. I just wondered if the error was due to it trying to grab the images from the wrong place. Its creating the images it just can't seem to upload them to the script..

Rene - Can you raise the memory limit in php.ini at all? It appears the image class uses far more memory than the old method of image manipulation. Until I can figure out how to reduce that, raising your memory restirction in php.ini will resolve it.

Like I said Rene, 2.1.8 uses vBs image manipulation classes which have more overhead. Until I can find some other ways of reducing memory load, you may be stuck with it if you cant edit php.ini

Hey Rene, it just means that since I changed GARS to use the vB image and upload classes (for better integration) that it now uses more memory then before. This is what is causing your error. In other words, GARS needs more memory than your php configuration currently allows. I am working hard on a solution so bear with me :)

Make sure that after you import the package that you edit the snap module in your showthread AND forumdisplay page to make sure the new custom field is assigned correctly.

Also, edit the new Link Directory Type after the import to upload the default header image included with the zip.

Ill write some more copy here when I get a second.

This package has been updated to work with GARS 2.1.8. In order for the images to upload, your URL to images folder (admincp->gars->settings) MUST BE the complete, full, URL (not relative). Otherwise the images will not upload.

Ok habe es geschafft die Fehlermeldung ist weg :)

Leider werden die thumbnails nicht Automatisch erstellt, für jeden Neuen Link muss das Bild manuell hochgeladen werden.

Das ist aber schon ganz OK so, besser wird es wohl nicht gehen.

GARS_threadbit_deleted is set now. Before, GARS_link_threadbit_deleted was set. I've never set these option. :o

Hmmmm............ der Support könnte Besser sein, dafür das dass Programm Geld Kostet,
leider ist die Linkliste nur bedingt unter GARS 2.0 Einsetzbar.

Frustrating situation!
I have GARS 2.1.8c working fine with vBulletin 3.7 beta3
When I try to import this 'Links' module I get the following error
Database error in vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 3:

Invalid SQL:

Now the way I see it is that when GARS is originally installed the GARS_1/2/3_phrases are installed. When installing a mod (like the links) it should then install the GARS_4_phrases 'on-the-fly' so to speak, this is obviously not happening.

Looking through the code does not enlighten me, I do a little coding but Sams code goes way beyond my comprehension :(
So, anybody have any ideas??

Im hoping if someone would be kind enough to help.
Im trying to get this set op on my site so it appears the same as on here, but im getting really confused.

Ive tried to follow the instructions, but nothing appears to be changing. Would anyone be kind enough to have a look for me?

Safe-mode=off, all paths are present and correct, all permissions present and correct, so totally baffled :(
p.s. also been through every known thumbnail service........ (known to me and here, that is)

I hope this helps some others that have had the same problem I and quite a few others have had with the thumbnailer. The one listed in the Readme file - http://www.m-software.de/screenshot/Screenshot.png?url= has never worked for me, it may or may not work for you; however, I have gotten these to work on ver3.6.8 PL2

Could anyone please tell me where I can change that address? I've got the same problem, no more thumbs for new links. However, I don't recall where to set that address and I cannot find it anywhere in the ACP. :(
