This thread is to discuss the release of GeekMart Beta 5.0 for vB.5x for specific bugs, post a support ticket or create a new thread in the troubleshooting forum.

I have finally had some time to sit down and clean up some rather pesky bugs in the last Beta and I am pleased to say that its looking much more like the finished project (though I still caution that it IS a beta!).

It is IMPERATIVE that you follow the upgrade instructions in the readme to the letter as I have changed some specific things that will require a couple of tweaks to previous installs.

One problem with earlier versions is that international versions would Konk out if your language set used a , for a decimal place. I have fixed that however it has caused me to have to change the way prices (and postage) are entered into the system.
Instead of entering 2.95 as a price, you must now enter 295. Instead of 197.50 you enter 19750. Yes, a bit odd... but it now works for all :)
This change requires you to run an additional upgrade step for previous users. This step will change all prices to the new version EXCEPT for vendor shipping prices. For that, you will need to edit each vendor profile by hand and change all prices to the new format (takes 2 seconds).

A couple other items:

I have added the ability for you to upload images and resize them (if you have gdi support) for categories, items and products.
I have also cleaned up the admincp UI a bit
I have fixed a hed load of existing bugsIf upgrading, I CANT STRESS ENOUGH that you follow the readme upgrade steps to the letter!

Just a quick question, you jumped from 1.0B4 to 5.0 or is it a typo? =)

Hey Geek another great product...

If i am just selling basic item that is around around 2.00 a piece do you think its a good idea to get geekmart now ? and help squash those bugs or should i wait for maybe a RC release first ?

Depends on if its a 'stock' controllable item as that isnt plugged in yet. The last beta of GM has taken leaps forward in stability, however its still a little ways off.

Its up to you in the end :) I would love more help on the bug squashing front :)

Has anyone upgraded yet from beta 4? That is my plan this weekend, but I was just curious if anyone one else had tried yet.

Does it overwrite all your settings like previously? If not, I can have at it sooner, but if it does I will need to wait until I have more time.

The Geek

nope. It doesnt overwrite your settings, however there are a few extra steps aside from just importing the xml

Yeah, I saw that. I'll give it a try tonight and see if I can get anything to break. lol

Is there no way to test the beta version for free? I'm not going to pay for a product that is still in beta and where it's not really clear for me what is possible. I'm very interested in this product what I read about it, but I would like to try it out myself or at least see it in action in a live environment.

Nope, in fact, I cant think of many trail versions of any php scripts die to the fact they can easily be modified to break any trial functionality.
Though Im using it on 2 live sites and I know of some others, I do not recommend it is used on a live site until it goes gold which could still take a couple months.

Does this integrate into 2checkout and authorize.net?

The only current payment handler is paypal as its the onlyone I have ;)
However I have coded it so that other handlers can easily be dropped in (once they are coded!)

We're working on a professional printing system for the vbgallery / photopost vbgallery. We were going to build a shopping cart, but i had bought the geekmart a few months ago, and thought we'd put it to use.

Having said that - we're going to do a bit of work with this geekmart, so hopefully you'll be happy with the amount of features, faults, bugs we'll come up with.

The Geek
11-05-2006, 03:06 PM
beta 5 :)

11-16-2006, 08:45 PM
how can we get the beta.. will it work w/ 3.6. i hope there is further development on this. i have 300 bucks into xcart and a skin and i hate it. wasted money trying to find an alternative.

The Geek

Hey Stunt, I know what you mean. I spent far more than that recently on x-cart and it is a nightmare (to put it mildly).

GM apparently works on 3.6 however it isnt being developed (hence the reason its off the helf). Until I get through all my current iterations, I have no plans to open it back up.

Best of luck on x-cart. It took me a couple weeks just to do basic templating for www.sarahapp.co.uk
